Guidelines
Other Guild Board Rules
The Other Guild (OG) Message Boards are a publicly viewable, privately owned forum and, while we encourage a free flow of information and ideas on the boards, we also ask that you follow a few basic rules. By using or participating on the OG Boards, you agree to the Rules of Conduct as stated below, as well as the OG User Agreement.
* Moderation
The OG Message Boards are a moderated forum. However, the administrators (who serve as the primary moderation) cannot be everywhere and see everything. If you see something that is against the Board Rules, or anything that you feel requires the attention of a moderator, please report it via the Report button found in each post. Note that the administrators have the final say-so in any situation that you report to them. They will evaluate the situation on a case-by-case basis and take appropriate action where needed.
* What Is An Admin?
Admins are volunteers who generously give their time to help board users with questions about our sites and boards. They also are the peacekeepers and are here to ensure that all visitors enjoy their stay. This means enforcing the Board Rules and User Agreement.
* What Do Admins Do?
Admins monitor board posts and respond to complaints to keep posting free of undesirable content as described in the Board Rules and User Agreement. They enforce the board rules, and can delete posts, edit posts, move posts as well as remove any user's ability to visit the boards. If an admin lets you know you are close to crossing the line, take heed of the warning. Likewise, if your thread was deleted or locked by an admin, do not repost the topic. They deserve respect and appreciation for their time.
* Bans/Suspensions
If you log onto the OG message boards and receive a message that you have been banned or suspended and wish to appeal this, please send an email to admin@intrepid.galaxyforums.com and wait for an Admin to get in touch with you. Bans and Suspensions are private matters between the Admins and the person banned/suspended and will not be discussed publicly or through third parties. It is not acceptable for members to make posts or threads concerning the banning or suspension of other members. It is also not acceptable to return to the boards under another username. If you do, your ban time may be extended.
* What If I Disagree With An Admin?
Admins are not perfect and are only human. Disagreements occur. Try to communicate with them first on a respectful level and settle your disagreement. They are not targets for your obscenities, flames or general insults. If you do not agree with a decision, you are not entitled to start a thread arguing about the verdict or flaming any of the Admins. Any such messages will be removed. This extends to Private Messages and unban requests as well, and you are not entitled to insult moderators via either of these methods. Also note that bans and suspensions are between the user banned/suspended and the Admins, and Admins will not respond about bans publicly. Any correspondence about ban or suspension length and reason will be handled through email with the person affected.
Following are some things you'll want to keep in mind while posting on the OG Message Boards. Please read the rules so you will be familiar with them:
* Flaming, Bashing, and Trolling
Hate posts and personal attacks (as defined in the rules for Flame Central) will not be tolerated on the OG Boards. Flame Central is the only section of the OG Boards where flaming is allowed at all. Treat others on these message boards as you would expect them to treat you. Posting topics or replies outside of Flame Central specifically to provoke a negative response from an individual, a group or an entire community is not acceptable on the OG Boards. These posts will be deleted and may result in having the privilege of posting on the boards revoked.
Board bashing is also not allowed on the OG Boards. Please respect the various communities on the OG Boards system. If another board is not your favorite, there's no need to complain about it. Simply refrain from visiting it. Board bashing posts will be deleted.
* Profanity
Offensive language should not ever be used in thread titles. While we may let you get away with anything you might hear on network television (no, NOT cable) or radio, don't go overboard.
* Spam and Hijacking
Purposely spamming a message board with excessive posts that are senseless, vacuous, or empty to gain a higher post count, or to disrupt threads, is highly frowned upon! Certain board games may appear to be no different than spam, but these will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
The same applies to hijacking of threads on a repeat basis with posts that in no way relate to the discussion at hand. If you have something you'd like to say or ask that is completely unrelated, please start a new thread. Certain incidentally tangents may appear to be no different than hijacks, but, again, these will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
On a similar note, participating in spam attacks on the OG Boards or planning a spam attack on the OG Message Boards (even if it is planned using another site) or any other Website is unacceptable, and these actions will be reported to your ISP.
* Piracy, ROMs, and Warez
OG does not condone stuff. We have a very strict policy against piracy, ROMs, warez, and the illegal use of copyrighted material. Linking or giving information about any site that distributes illegal software, ROMs, media, or emulators, or encouraging software or media piracy is grounds for an immediate ban. It is also unacceptable to post first-hand impressions, reviews or screenshots of known pirated material.
* Impersonating Other Users / Accessing Another User's Account
You may not impersonate another board member or create an account specifically for the purpose of provoking other users. Also, accessing or using someone else's account or attempting to access another poster's account is strictly prohibited. If you engage in this type of behavior, you will possibly be barred from the boards permanently.
* Altering Board Code
Altering or changing code and/or exploiting code bugs for purposes other than what the message boards were intended to do is strictly prohibited. On a similar note, using automatic scripts on any part of this domain is also not permitted. Hacking, altering board code, exploiting code bugs and using scripts are all grounds for an immediate and permanent ban. Similarly, using board features for other than their intended purpose is equally prohibited.
* Off-Topic Posts
Okay, so you probably won't get banned for an off-topic post, but c'mon, try to post suitable subjects on each of the appropriate boards. It's probably not a great idea to ask "Has anyone seen that new show on Fox?" on the SWG:Intrepid Chat board when we have a dedicated entertainment message board just screaming for questions like that. Off-topic posts will most likely be moved, and further action may be taken against repeat offenders.
* Spoilers
Just because you know that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's daddy doesn't mean that everybody does (whoops). Be considerate of the other users who may not have seen a movie or played a game that you're talking about, and don't give away spoilers in subject lines that everyone can read. Simply type something eye-catching like **BEGIN SPOILER** before any text that may give away any significant information about the plot and **END SPOILER** after the text in a post. You should also avoid posting spoilers in a subject line altogether.
* Questionable Content
Since we can't have a rule to cover everything, this is the rule to, well, cover everything. These are publicly viewable boards, so act like you would if you were in a public place. We reserve the right to choose the guidelines of objectionable content based on our knowledge of users and board policy. These issues are left to the discretion of the individual Admins, but may include any material that is knowingly false and/or defamatory, misleading, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, racist, sexist, pornographic, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy or that otherwise violates any law or encourages conduct constituting a criminal offense.
We can't always promise you'll receive a warning every time action has to be taken. By registering at the OG Message Boards, users agree that any post deemed inappropriate may be removed at the sole discretion of the Admins. We also have the right, at our sole discretion, to revoke board privileges at any time without notice or reason. Think of these rules as a forewarning and, if you break them, you're taking your account status into your own hands.
Also note that the Board Rules extend to all areas of the domain, including but not limited to Private Messages, Signatures, and Blogs. This also extends to URLs linked to from anywhere on this domain. If the site linked to contain anything against our rules, we may have you remove the link from this domain and action may be taken if deemed necessary. It is equally unacceptable to use another site as a means for circumventing the rules of this site in situations directly connected to events here. This also includes asking for or offering anything against the Board Rules via Private Messages.
We have the right but not the obligation to monitor and/or moderate the OG Boards. We have the right to remove access from these boards for any reason we deem necessary. We reserve the right to change any or all other parts of this User Agreement at our sole discretion and without notice, including but not limited to implementing Rules of Conduct, Terms of Service and/or other measures. By entering this site, you agree to the terms and conditions of these rules.
